Frequently asked questions
What does a snowshoeing excursion involve?
It is a guided route walking on snow using snowshoes, which allow you to move without sinking. It is an accessible activity that combines nature, exercise and discovery of the winter environment.
Is snowshoeing difficult?
No. It is an easy activity suitable for beginners, although the terrain can be irregular, with snow, ice and some rocks. Walking with snowshoes is similar to normal walking, it just requires a slight adjustment in your stride.
Is previous experience required?
No. No prior experience is necessary. Before starting, the guide explains how to use the equipment and the basic techniques.
Can I do it if I have never been in the mountains?
Yes, it is an accessible activity to get started, but it is important to have a basic level of fitness and feel comfortable walking in the mountains. The terrain can be variable, with snow, slopes and uneven sections, so having some hiking experience is recommended in order to keep a steady group pace.
Do I need to be in good physical condition?
A high level is not required, but a basic level of fitness is necessary. It is more demanding than walking without snow, especially on uphill sections. The excursion lasts approximately 3 hours in a mountain environment, with continuous gentle to moderate ascents and descents, so a certain level of endurance and familiarity with hiking is recommended.
Can there be slopes or uneven terrain?
Yes. Although it is not a technical activity, there may be sections with slopes, gentle to moderate ascents and descents, as well as areas with compact snow or ice that require stability while walking. It is important to feel comfortable in this type of terrain. If you have reduced mobility, difficulty walking continuously, balance issues or significant vertigo, we recommend contacting us beforehand.
What happens if I cannot keep up with the group?
The pace is adapted to the group and carried out progressively and comfortably. However, having a basic level of fitness and some hiking experience is recommended to enjoy the activity smoothly without causing unnecessary waiting times.
What is the minimum age?
The minimum age is 12 years for all standard outings. For children between 8 and 12 years old (with a shoe size of 34 or above), there are family-specific outings. It is not recommended for children under 8 years old, as the activity requires a certain level of fitness and the ability to walk for around 3 hours in a mountain environment and sometimes under adverse weather conditions.
Can children participate?
Yes. By selecting the specific family outing, the pace and route are adapted to children aged 8 to 12, with more accessible itineraries suited to their level.
What equipment is included?
Snowshoes and poles.
What should I bring?
Layered winter clothing, gloves, hat, sunglasses and waterproof mountain footwear. It is important to stay dry and warm during the activity.
Do I need special footwear?
Yes. Waterproof mountain footwear with good support is recommended. Specific snow boots are not required, but with proper footwear your feet will stay dry throughout the activity. Snowshoes prevent sinking, but you will be walking on snow, so if your footwear is not suitable, moisture may get in.
What happens if I do not bring proper equipment or footwear?
The guide may deny participation if you are not properly equipped or wearing appropriate footwear for safety reasons. In this case, no refund will be issued.
Will I sink in the snow?
No. Snowshoes distribute your weight and prevent sinking, making it easier to move even in deep snow.
Is it a safe activity?
Yes, as long as it is carried out with a guide and following their instructions. The route takes place in areas with no avalanche risk.
Is the activity cancelled in bad weather?
No. The activity takes place as usual in normal snow, wind or cold conditions. It will only be cancelled if conditions pose a safety risk.
How do I get to the meeting point in case of snow or bad weather?
In case of snowfall, the use of snow chains or covers is usually mandatory. If you do not have them, you must arrange alternative transport. No changes or cancellations outside the deadline will be accepted for this reason.
How much time should I allow to reach the meeting point?
During peak seasons, heavy traffic may occur, especially early in the morning, which can significantly increase travel time (up to 2 hours). We recommend leaving early to arrive on time. If you have any doubts, contact us.
What happens if I arrive late?
Schedules are strict. In case of justified delay, a 5-minute courtesy period may be given. After that, the booking will be lost and no rescheduling or refund will be possible.
What if I am staying in Pallars Sobirà and the Bonaigua pass is closed?
Access must be via the alternative route Sort – Pont de Suert. No cancellations or refunds will be accepted for this reason.
Can I participate if I am pregnant?
It is not recommended to participate if you are pregnant.
What if I have back problems or other physical conditions?
It is not recommended for people with back problems, injuries or other significant conditions. If in doubt, we recommend consulting a doctor beforehand.
Will I feel cold?
Generally no, as long as you wear adequate warm clothing. During the activity, your body warms up quickly as you are constantly moving. The key is to dress in layers, with gloves, hat and appropriate eyewear (snow goggles are recommended in case of snowfall or wind).
Can I do it without a guide?
Yes, but it is not recommended if you are not familiar with the area. Going with a guide improves safety, interpretation of the environment and overall experience. If you prefer to go on your own, we offer snowshoe rental, and we recommend checking with the tourist office about routes, access and avalanche risk.
Do I need to bring a backpack?
It is recommended but not essential. You can bring water, some food and extra clothing, or use it to store layers if you get warm during the activity.
Can I bring pets?
Yes, one dog per group is allowed and must always be on a leash. We recommend using a harness and an elastic leash that can be attached to your waist, as you will need both hands for the poles. Please inform us in advance so we can check with the rest of the group.
Can I rent clothing or equipment?
Clothing, gloves, goggles or footwear are not available for rent. It is recommended to come properly equipped with winter or ski clothing, although on sunny or mild days it is not always essential.
