Where to go rafting in Catalonia
Rafting at Llavorsí and Rafting at Pallars Sobirà
Llavorsí has been the starting point for rafting in Catalonia since the 1980s. The Noguera Pallaresa drew the first operators with its continuous rapids, generous snowmelt flow and a narrow valley that keeps the water moving for kilometres. The Pallars Sobirà is now Spain's main whitewater hub, with Sort, Rialp and La Pobla de Segur as key towns. Five runs from 5 to 20 km depart from Llavorsí, covering every difficulty level.
Rafting at Pont de Suert and Rafting at Vall de Boí: rafting beside Aigüestortes
The Noguera Ribagorzana runs along the Catalonia-Aragon border. The descent departs from Pont de Suert, 15 minutes from Vall de Boí and Boí Taüll, at the gateway to Aigüestortes National Park. A family-friendly section with gentle class II rapids, high mountain scenery and fewer crowds.
Rafting at Aran Valley: family rafting on the Garona
The Garona offers an 8 km run between Les and Pont de Rei (French border) with class II-III rapids. The most accessible descent in the Lleida Pyrenees for families: wide river, short rapids and daily departures from Vielha.
Rafting at Noguera Pallaresa: a European whitewater reference
The Noguera Pallaresa rises in the Àneu Valley and flows over 50 km to the Segre. Between Llavorsí and Collegats lies the densest concentration of runnable rapids in the Catalan Pyrenees: continuous class II to IV sections including La Lavadora, La Sirga, El Cuatro Español, Quatre Llarg and Les Estisores. The river is fed by snowmelt from peaks above 3,000 m, giving it strong flow from May to July. Olympic kayak teams have trained here.

Season and best time
The rafting season in Lleida runs from April to October. Each period shapes the experience differently:
May and June: highest water levels from Pyrenean snowmelt. Rapids reach maximum power, descents are faster and the intensity is greater. Recommended for those seeking adrenaline. The minimum age may rise to 8-10 on some sections for safety.
July and August: moderate flow and warmer temperatures. The most comfortable combination for families and beginners. Peak visitor numbers; advance booking is recommended.
September and October: good water levels, fewer people, autumn scenery and lower prices. The best period for those who prefer a quieter experience.
Guides assess river conditions daily. If water flow exceeds safe levels, an alternative section with lower exposure or a date change is offered.
