Discover Viu Superior Canyon, one of the best beginner canyoning routes in the Pyrenees. Located in the Alta Ribagorça region, just a few minutes from Pont de Suert, this canyon has everything you need for a true canyoning adventure: natural slides, narrow limestone passages, crystal-clear pools and an exciting 6-metre abseil that will make your first canyoning experience unforgettable.

Viu Superior stands out for its light-coloured limestone rock, which reflects the sunlight and creates a bright, open environment, as well as for its unusually warm water, thanks to the canyon's orientation and the characteristics of the limestone. These features make it the perfect canyon for anyone looking to discover canyoning safely while enjoying spectacular scenery.

Accompanied by a qualified professional guide, you'll begin the day at the RocRoi base in Pont de Suert, where you'll receive your equipment and a complete safety briefing covering abseiling techniques and canyon progression. After a 20-minute approach hike, you'll enter the canyon to enjoy a succession of natural slides, small downclimbs, crystal-clear pools and narrow limestone corridors carved by water over thousands of years.

How high is the abseil in Barranco Viu Superior?

The route includes an easy abseil of around six metres on limestone. No previous experience is required: your qualified guide supports each participant at all times. It is one of the most valued obstacles for people doing their first descent in Alta Ribagorça.

Is it suitable for young people with no previous experience?

Yes. The upper section of Viu de Llevata is designed to be a first time for many people. The obstacles are progressive, the difficulty is low to moderate and the guide adapts the pace to the group. You do not need previous technique or a special fitness level: just the motivation to do it.

Can children come with their parents?

From age eight with an accompanying adult. It is one of the most accessible canyons for families in Alta Ribagorça: the water is not excessively cold, the technical difficulty is low and every obstacle has an alternative for anyone who does not want to jump.

What is the difference between Viu Superior and Canyoning in Viu de Llevata?

Viu Superior is the upper section of the canyon: shorter (1h30 in the canyon), more family-friendly and with lower technical demand, ideal from age 8 with an accompanying adult. Canyoning in Viu de Llevata is the full route, longer and with a faster pace. Both share the same bright limestone, but they suit different profiles. If it is your first time, start with the upper section.

Does the price include all the equipment?

Yes. The price includes a full wetsuit, helmet, harness, neoprene socks, qualified guide, free parking, accident insurance and public liability insurance. You only need a swimsuit, sports shoes that can get wet and a rash vest or thermal top.
